It will allow you to melt from aluminium to cast iron for the cost of the few pence of electricity for the blower, or it can be used as a vertical forge. The fuel is waste oil, used cooking oil or used engine oil. It is capable of melting up to 60 lbs. of cast iron in a crucible when built to the size described in the book, or more if it is built larger. Many metals can be melted directly in the furnace and tapped into a homemade ladle (unfortunatly not cast iron) , also you can make your own cast iron crucibles for almost free, this is all described in the book.
