Description
Best Prices on eBay! Stained Glass Starter Kit - Brand Names! There are a LOT of starter kits being offered on EBay, but no one offers you quality brand names and low prices like we do! Don't be stuck with cheap tools that you'll outgrow or break early in your stained glass career. The tools included in this kit include products from some of the biggest names in stained glass. What's more, we TELL you why our products are better, and tell you how to use them, too. This kit includes everything you need to get started in this great hobby. With this kit, you'll be ready to tackle your first projects fully prepared and with confidence in your tools. Bought separately, the items in this kit would cost about $85-$100. All items in this kit are first quality, BRAND NEW products. This great value kit includes the following items: 100 Watt soldering iron - This great iron is from Inland, who is one of the biggest names in the stained glass hobby. They make a variety of quality tools, from grinders to hand tools. This is a premium iron, with a value price! It includes a rubber comfort grip for extended soldering sessions, and a mid-sized 1/4" tip. It comes with a two prong, standard 120v plug, and a 6-foot power cord. Combination Inland Breaker/Grozing Pliers - This is the workhouse of hand tools! This is the tool that you will use for most of your breaking. A straight jaw allows you to snap off scores like a pro, and a curved blade allows you to "nibble" away at the edges of glass for fine shaping. This is a heavy-duty pair of pliers, and will last you for many years. 3/8" wide jaws are a good general use size for all your glass projects. Lifetime warranty! Inland Running Pliers - These are rugged 8" running pliers. The curved jaws allow you to place the curved jaws over a score line, squeeze gently, and run a score easily. The plastic-coated jaws allow you to apply pressure without damaging the glass, and an adjustable screw keeps you from crushing the glass. Beware of kits that include PLASTIC running pliers. They are inferior quality, and will NOT be able to apply the pressure and finesse that is needed for running difficult scores. These are also much easier to use than smaller, 6" running pliers. A smaller pair of pliers is unable to give you the power and control that these larger ones will. Lifetime warranty! Glass Cutter - This is a standard pencil-style glass cutter from Fletcher-Terry. Fletcher has been making glass cutters since 1868, so they know a thing or two about it! This is their standard Gold Tip model, which has a 130 degree hone angle on it, making it a good all-purpose cutter, suitable for all glass types. It includes a flat finger pad for easy cutting, and a tapping ball. The tapping ball allows tough scores to be tapped out, making cutting complex shapes easy! Soldering Iron Stand - This is a wire stand with a wide base that holds a hot soldering iron when not in use, or when cooling down. It easily fits the Inland soldering iron that's included in this kit, and allows you to keep it close at hand without risk of burns! It includes a sponge to wipe the tip while soldering, to keep it from building up contamination. 1 Roll Avril 60/40 Solder - This is a 1 pound roll of 60/40 Avril solder. 60/40 solder is a great solder for all stained glass purposes, and Avril is a premium name in solder! This is a roll of PREMIUM solder, and doesn't contain the impurities that can appear in cheaper, generic solders. This leads to cruddy buildup while soldering, and extended cleanup times. We used to sell Canfield solder exclusively, but after their prices spiked over 70% in a 6 month time, we tried Avril solder. Guess what? We couldn't tell a difference between the two (except the price!). It flows beautifully, leaving you with smooth solder lines, and no gunky impurities. You put too much time and effort into a stained glass project to spoil it with cheap solder. Avril costs more than cheap, generic solders, but the results are well worth it! Classic 100 Gel Flux - Flux allows the solder to bond with the copper foil and form smooth solder lines. Gel flux allows you to apply the flux where YOU want it, instead of running all over the place like liquid fluxes can. Classic 100 Gel Flux cleans up easily with water, and is non-smoking and non-odor producing. This gel flux is suitable for all types of stained glass construction. This is a generous 4 ounce bottle, which will last a long time. Includes a flux brush for easy application. Copper Foil Tape - This is a roll of copper foil from Venture Tape, who is the biggest manufacturer of copper foil. It comes in a common 7/32" width. This is a good general purpose width that can be used for all projects. It comes with a black backing, to avoid seeing copper through transparent glasses. Easily burnished, and easily formed around curves, Venture makes the widest variety of copper foil in the industry. Fid - A fid is a tool that is used to flatten down the copper foil after applying it to the glass. This fid is a flat plastic tool with rounded edges. It fits easily in the hand, and won't flake off or drop splinters like wooden fids can do. Cutting Oil - For maximum wear and performance, you should oil your cutter wheel regularly when cutting. Oiling it every 6-8 scores is sufficient. This is a bottle of non-toxic cutting oil from Toyo, maker of super high quality glass cutters for stained glass. It is a 4 oz. bottle, which will last a very long time! Instruction Book - What good is a starter kit if it doesn't include some instructions? This is the book that has launched many stained glass careers. Presented in easy to understand language, "Stained Glass Craft Made Simple" is chock-full of tips and techniques for learning copper foil.
