RARE Moroccan Money BEADS Ceramic Vintage 1960 Old Coin Once used as North African Currency - No Longer Made Start Price AUD 45.00 Current Price AUD 45.00 Time Left - Bid Count 1 Buy It Now Price - Reserve Price - Start Time Tuesday, October 07, 2008 End Time Sunday, October 12, 2008 Location Sydney, NSW See more about 'RARE Moroccan Money BEADS Ceramic Vintage 1960 Old Coin' Description Moroccan Money Beads 9 Vintage 1960s Ceramic Beads Just gorgeous old Moroccan Money Beads in multi-coloured ceramic or glass.  Total of 9 beads varying in length from 1cm to 5.5cm and averaging just over 1cm in diameter.  These 'money beads' were purchased in Morocco in the '60s as valid currency.  When my friends returned there a decade later they asked after the beads but were told that they were no longer being made.  I have searched the Internet and can only find reference to 'Guilomine' beads (or similar spellings) which were used as coins in Africa and 'discovered' by hippies who used them as jewellery.  As you can see from the photos they look good enough to eat, they are just lovely.  On close inspection you can see how they were hand formed much the same way as a stick of rock candy.  Part of the original leather thong is still attached to some of them.  Any bead or coin collector will be the envy of their friends with these rare gems.    Please feel free to ask questions.  All items are from a smoke and pet free home.  Items have been lightly cleaned only.
