During slow cooling, the microcrystalline and color transformation of the ware is given sufficient time for full development. Two inches of high temperature block insulation line all four sides, the lid, and bottom behind the firebrick of the kiln. Combined with the 2 1/2" thick firebrick, total insulation thickness is 4 1/2". The lid fits inside a recess around the top of the kiln. for extra strength, the side wall firebrick are cemented together in rows. Steel supports reinforce the steel base of the kiln. Steel covers the top of the lid. 3" heavy steel casters are optional. This is a top loading kiln that can also be converted to a side loader for jewellery purposes.
