Minnesota See more about 'Hand pounded Black Ash Splint Basket Weaving #2' Description Up for auction is hand pounded Minnesota Black Ash splint for basket weaving.  This splint is unfinished, just as it was pulled from the tree.  If you want smooth splint, it can be scraped, soaked to make workable, and split to create thin flexible strips for weaving.  There are 21 splints total.  Nineteen (19) are all at least five (5) feet long and 3/4-1" wide.  Two splints are six (6) feet long and have a minimum width of 3/4 inches.  They all tend to be a little narrower at one end and so I have given the most narrow measurement.   They are all about as thick as a nickel.
