Description
Hand-Turned Hardwood Nostepinde/NostepinneYarn Ball WinderTulipwood RosewoodTurquoise Gemstone Inlay Hand-Crafted by William Barnes, Graydog WoodenwareOffering our original designs on eBay since 1998 Hand-turned by William Barnes, who has been making needlework tools for over 30 years.  Bill designs and creates every piece individually.  Our work been featured in needlework publications, exhibitions and galleries, and is in collections worldwide. A Nostepinde (or nostepinne or just noste) is a tool used by fiber artists to wind yarn into a ball that pulls out from the center and allows access to both ends of the ball of yarn at the same time.  Spinners use center-pull balls when plying two single ply yarns together.  Knitters and crocheters use a nostepinne to wind balls of yarn -- You can knit or crochet from both ends of the ball at the same time, for a double strand that comes out even, without leftovers.  So it's a great tool to use to make center-pull balls of yarn from hanks of yarn. Beautiful "bubbles and beads" on this one-of-a-kind Turquoise-inlaid Graydog Noste!  The length is eight and one-half inches.  The shaft diameter is about 13mm.  Bill hand-turned the Nostepinde from Tulipwood, a costly and highly-prized species of Rosewood, Dalbergia decipularis, also called Bois de Rose (it gives off a lovely flowery aroma when cut).  It's very strong and durable with gorgeous natural color and beautiful grain pattern.  Into the five turned beads in the handle, Bill inlaid bands of crushed Turquoise gemstone with beautiful natural color.  The vivid Turquoise color contrasts beautifully with the rich warm color of the Rosewood.  Turned rondelles between each bead complete Bill's design.  In gemstone lore, Turquoise is a lucky stone that promotes courage, serenity, and wisdom.  A beautiful gift for yourself or anyone who works with yarn.  Velvet presentation pouch and gift card are included. ... It's a Graydog!
