A laying tool is used by needleworkers and fiber artists to control thread tension and thread alignment.  It's also useful where a pointed stiletto or awl is needed to pierce fabric or pick up a misplaced stitch. Length:  Four and three-quarters inches.  Bill hand-turned this one-of-a-kind Graydog Laying Tool from the finest naturally-black African Ebony, Diospyros crassiflora, one of most costly and highly-prized woods of the world.  This is a beautiful piece of Ebony, black with some subtle dark-brown shading, and fine, dense, even grain.  Into the handle, Bill inlaid a wide expanse of genuine crushed Malachite gemstone with gorgeous natural color, polished to a satin-smooth finish.  And the Ebony beads on either side are inlaid with bands of the polished crushed Malachite.  In gemstone lore, Malachite promotes optimism, prosperity, and concentration.  Velvet presentation pouch and gift card are included. ...
