What is the difference between markers? Look at the chart at the right for a comparison of COPIC Original, Sketch, Ciao, and Wide.  Check differences between the marker types. What makes COPIC Markers so unique? These are professional markers made for the demands of artists and designers in the industry. They have high quality inks that are checked 4 times for accuracy in manufacturing, the pens are refillable, nibs are replaceable, the high quality construction of the marker has a tight fitting cap and clearly printed identification of color code, The markers fit a special airbrush attachment (see below) thus turning the markers into an airbrush, and the markers come in four styles COPIC, Sketch, Wide and Ciao. Anyone who uses COPIC products quickly feels the quality difference of these markers. How does the color-number system work? Let's begin with a color, say R08, the R stands for the color family Red (B-blue, NG-neutral gray, E-earth, etc.)  The last number, 8 in this case, is how dark it is. So R59 would be darker than R08, but R08 would be darker than R20.  The middle number is the color tone or brightness/dullness. In the case of R08, it has a slight orange feel, but an R59 has almost a red-violet tint.  When shading an object, try to use two colors of the same color family, the lighter one for mid-tones and the darker one for shadows, with the last number 1-3 numbers different, and the middle number as close as possible, if not the same. How light fast are the COPIC Markers? Like other dye based markers, many colors will fade if exposed to light for extended periods of time. To preserve your art work it is suggested that you make colored copies directly from them. These copies will often last much longer than the original and can be exposed to light in a picture frame.
