The Camera Lucida is an optical device that allowed you to see what you wanted to paint or draw as if reflected on your canvas or paper. All you need to do is to trace the subject, no more struggling to get the perspective or someone's features accurate. It’s simple, effective, and fun! Just point it at anything you want to draw or paint. And with no special lighting—on white or black surfaces—it will reflect that image onto your paper or canvas for you to duplicate on your own. This is the tool that has been used by the Great Masters of fine arts since 1807. Today two centuries later you are able to purchase this same tool fine tuned by Alexander Alexander in 1830; also known as mirror type camera lucida or Graphic Mirror. This model of Camera Lucida is a more modern version of camera lucida. It dose the same thing as the small prism models; only unlike many prism lucidas, with this Lucida no lenses are needed and you get clear images no matter the distance from the subject. Plus the reflected image is larger (24in wide x 18in high), and this Lucida is a fraction of the price and much better looking. Unlike an Opaque projector or art projector, this Camera Lucida requires no electricity, and you are not limited to just copying pictures. You can reflect anything onto paper or canvas: pictures, paintings, landscapes, portraits, figures, still lifes. And you can reflect the image onto white or dark paper or Canvas or anything else you want to: dishes, crafts, rocks, t-shirts, your arm. Plus, knowing that you’re using the same tool that the Old Masters use to make their Masterpieces makes drawing with this camera lucida that much more exciting. Whether you are a Modern Master or just an Art Enthusiast who wants to paint like a professional, this is a very useful tool for any artists; although, this is a tool not a toy, so it is not recommended for small children. You have two interchangeable screens to works with: one is half-silvered acrylic mirror and the other is clear acrylic glass. The half-silvered mirror works best in most situations, no special lighting is needed and it works on white paper. The clear glass works best on black paper (then no special lighting is needed) or when the subject is much brighter then work space—in these cases the half-silvered mirror can some times reflect an image that is so bright that you cannot see your pencil. With these two screens you will have a wide workable light range. Comes with attached Drawing Board, so you can work anywhere Folds neatly for easy transportation and storage Sturdy Hardwood construction with a beautiful protective walnut finish New Wider Screen reflects wider image (24in wide x 18in high) Made with Safe Plexi-glass and Plexi-mirror Two interchangeable screens that side out easily for cleaning. Adjustable: to fit your height The camera head swivels and pivots up and down to project the image right where you need it Stands 23 ½ '' High by 24" wide Hand crafted with attention to detail in the USA No Assembly required Helpful instruction included The image you get with the Camera Lucida is perfectly sharp, and you are able to make the image as translucent or as opaque as you want. So you can imagine how easy your own Camera Lucida will make it to draw and paint realistically same as artists have been doing for hundreds of years. It uses the same basic scientific principles that movie make used before the days of computer graphics to make translucent ghosts and it is still the way Disney Land’s Haunted Mansion ghosts are made, and the Camera Lucida dose the same thing only it make a translucent image of whatever you put in front of it appear on your paper or canvas so you can trace it. The maximum size you can project is about 18in(45.7cm) high x 24in(61cm) wide, but if you wanted to draw a 18in x 48in drawing, for example, you can draw one half then move it over and draw the other half, so you can make quite large drawings and painting, and there is no limit on how small a work you can create. The camera head on this Camera Lucida can pivot up and down or, in other words, rock back and forth; this is very important because as the camera head rocks back and forth it moves the reflected image up and down relative to your paper or canvas. This feature will allow you to center a face or bowl of fruit on your canvas, and when you draw a landscape, it will allow you to choose whether you want to pivot it down to paint the river in the valley, or pivot it up to draw the mountains. Some camera lucidas do not have this feature, they have a camera head that is fixed in place, which can be very frustrating because you may have to elevate a still life to get it to center on the paper, or you will not be able to draw the river or the mountains—you will be stuck drawing the empty field in the middle. To make the projected image bigger or smaller, change the distance between the Camera Lucida and object. The closer the object the bigger it will be, and the farther the object the smaller it will be. So you can use the Camera Lucida to shrink and a large the drawing or painting, or use it to enlarge a small drawing or picture. You can enlarge a 5in X 7in (12.7cm X 17.8cm) picture to 12in X 14in (30.5cm X 35.6cm), and a 8 ½in X 11in (21.6cm X 28cm) picture can be enlarged to fill the whole drawing board. Experiment and have fun. That is the best way to get the most out of you camera Lucida. Camera Lucidas are what inspired William Henry Fox Talbot to invent photography on paper, so they are great for teaching the history of art, but they are primarily very practical drawing tool, and my model sells for 25%-50% less than any other camera lucidas available, so any school could supply multiple sets for their students. Contact me if you need my venders Federal Tax Number for school or business purchases. You could end up paying $200.00 to $400.00 for a wobbly Camera Lucida that reflects a much smaller image, or you could get this beautiful modern Camera Lucida for Much less! Calculated shipping to the USA. Worldwide shipping at discounted prices. I sell a high percentage of my products over seas, so international shipping is not a problem. I understand that international shipping prices can be expensive, so I lowered all my international shipping prices at my own expense. Plus with the weak dollar, buying from the USA is a great deal right now.
