Quilt measures 60" wide by 60" long. It is machine made and machine quilted, and includes a sleeve on the back for hanging. It is signed and dated by me. Created in January 2005. "Fireworks Floral" is a rendition of my quilt pattern, Supernova.   Click here to see the Supernova Pattern. The idea behind the Supernova design is the interplay of planes. There is the background plane, the diagonal plane, and the north-south-east-west plane. While this may sound complicated, it is relatively easy to sew. The key is the choice of fabrics. I started with a dark floral fabric in dynamic colors of red, green blue and yellow. These same colors were selected for the different planes to give plenty of contrast and emphasize the lines and the different planes. It is a striking color combination. The piece is extensively machine quilted, shown in the details photos. This quilting is all done 'free-motion' by me, without the aid of any patterns or templates. Many of the flowers are outline quilted and the rest of the quilt is free-motion stippled in a large looping pattern.  I used a variegated cotton thread for the quilting to re-emphasize the color palette. The materials, time and workmanship in this piece would place it's value in the $350-$400 range. When I machine quilt a quilt of this size for a customer, with this level of detailed quilting, the cost of the quilting alone would be about $120.  This quilt would look awesome as the focal point room decor in a contemporary room, or would make a great topper for a child's bed.
