Oil Profiles   Lavender: Lavendula officinalis/angustifolium Fragrance: Floral; light; woody Note: Middle Lavender essential oil comes from the flowers of the shrub. Peppermint: Mentha piperita Fragrance: Menthol; sharp; piercing Note: Top Peppermint essential oil is obtained from the leaves and flowering tops of the herb, peppermint is a pleasantly soothing, stimulating and cooling essential oil, and refreshing when traveling long distances. Uses: Mentally stimulating, energizing, breath/air freshening, alleviates pain, headaches, nausea, digestion, 'cooling', eases hot flashes, influenza, soothing for menstrual and menopausal problems, antiseptic for skin, inspiring, good for clearing negative energy from one's aura. Peppermint essential oil is also useful as an insect repellent. Suggestions: Use it in a Room Burner to help maintain concentration, add sparingly to your bath during the summer months, or add to our unscented foot soak or our Fragrance Free Lotion to rejuvenate your tired feet. Spearmint: Mentha spicata Fragrance: Fresh; mild mint Note: Top/Middle The essential oil spearmint is obtained by steam distillation from the flowering tops of the herb, Spearmint is described as a stimulant and a tonic. It is refreshing, cooling, gently vitalizing. Uses: Properties are very similar to those of Peppermint. However, it is a better choice for children, and is particularly useful and comforting. Spearmint essential oil may also help keep the digestive and respiratory system in good working order. Energizing to the mind and body. Typically uses include insect repellent, emollient, astringent, soothing agent, muscle relaxant Suggestions: Use in bath water for it's refreshing effect. Make a facial steam of spearmint oil in a pot of boiling water to help cleanse and refine pores. Tangerine: Citrus madurensis Fragrance: Fresh; sweet; orange Note: Top/Middle Described as refreshing, Tangerine essential oil has mild stimulating properties and is a very cheering oil, especially for children and the elderly. Uses: combat depression and anxiety, astringent for oily skin Suggestions: Tangerine is particularly useful for skin care preparations when mixed with our unscented products, and tangerine may help in a massage blend after over-indulgence.    Procedures: The following are a few methods on how to use essential oils. The dilutions stated are for adults. Massage Always dilute oils before applying them to the skin. Use a carrier oil such as Sweet Almond Oil, Grapeseed Oil, Jojoba Oil or any other pure, unblended vegetable oil.Do not use "baby oil's", this is a mineral oil, and unlike vegetable oils will not be absorbed by the skin.3/5 drops of essential oils to 10 mls. of a carrier oil is about right.BathsAdd up to a maximum of 5 drops of pure essential oil to a bath full of warm water. Float the oil on the surface and mix with your hand before relaxing in the bath for around 10 to 15 minutes. For a hand or foot bath, use 2/3 drops in a bowl of warm water.InhalationAdd two drops of essential oil to a bowl of hot water. Cover your head with a towel and inhale the fragrant steam.In a Room BurnerUse 2/3 drops of essential oil in water in the reservoir of your oil burner. Since most burners rely on a lighted candle for heat, never leave them unattended or where children can access them. SAFETY TIPS: Keep out of reach of children and pets. Keep oils away from eyes and mucous membranes. Always dilute essential oils with carrier oils before applying them directly to your skin. Stop using oil immediately if redness, burning, itching or irritation occurs. A test area such as the inside of your elbow can be used to determine if you are allergic to the oil. Simply apply a small amount of the diluted oil and wait 12 hours to determine if irritation has occurred. Please be aware that all oils are not suitable for all uses. If you have certain underlying medical conditions it would be wise to research the oil you are considering using. Some oils are more harmful than good.
