Description
Offered is a whole black walnut stump cut. The stump has been drying for roughly 8 months. Cut into 6" thick slabs as shown...All roughly 4' long..You get it all! 2 Knotty burls included. I am not going to cherry pick the pieces. I didn't cut out the bad and there isn't much at all and it tapers away not into the wood. The winner will be thrilled because there is some beautiful crotch wood in the log with a grain structure that can be seen from the ends..Lots of ribbon and quilting.. I wiped some snow on the grain to help show the beauty of the grain. Remember the slabs are 6" thick... whats hiding? I cut them to what I thought was the perfect inital thickness to cut out a ton of gun stocks, lathe blanks, bandsaw boxes or any number of other crafts... There are a ton of blanks and projects to be cut from these pieces of wood! 40 pics ...have a look... By the way, I know times are tough... If the price is a little to high..."Make and offer!" I am listing this to sell it, not to look pretty on the page. Please don't think I am joking...The first three things out of the wifes mouth when she got home was... "What are you going to do with that?""Well, how long is going to be there? and "Oh, thats nice." Its all my truck will do to haul it....so.... it will have to be pick up only or possibly meet close by. Asheville, N.C. area. Obviously no one is interested in the log. From what I see I am offereing one of the best Walnut slab deals on ebay.I am not joking when I say, "If you want it, you should make an offer." The wife just asked if it could be burned as firewood... I slowly, told her yes. She wants it gone one way or another. Below is a shot showing the grain structure... the wood has not been watered to enhance the show of grain. it is shown as it was cut. Just look at the black... Whew isnt it pretty.. If I were to saw out those to matching boards.. what are they worth... 100 each at 5/4.. The bad part is tapering with the round for hte most part. Like I said .. I didnt cut anything out... Are you kidding... the bark cut has a nice board in it. The overall lenght of the log is shown below being around 48" long. There is at least a 6" wide board in the bark cut as shown below. Below are 2 photographs showing the thickness of the slabs... 3 slabs are 6" thick the bark cuts are close but have the barked edge... The slab below can easily have a 12" by 6" by 48" solid slab made from it with left over.. What a mantle! This is the other side of the 1st 6" thick slab and below that is the top of the 2nd. Outstanding quilting associated with both of these cuts! Below I am showing that the 2nd 6" thick slab on the narrow side measures 15"+ between the bark. The next shot is of the back of the 2nd 6" slab and the top of the 3rd slab... Nice long grain structure... lots of hidden color.. A solid 6" by 12" and a 6" by 10" slab could be made from or out of, the 3rd slab. There is a ribbon quilted area in the 3rd slab that would make an outstanding gunstock.... I have shown it wet off down below in the photos to come. Here is the back of the 3rd slab and the top of the last cut having a bark edge... You can also see the ribbon quilting here as it is standing... In the next run of photos I am trying to show both sides back to back as I am flipping them back to restack the slabs. Above and below are shots of the same area of the same board... one photo being while the wood is dry one while wet...
