Description
You are bidding on four Ashley Iles wood carving gouges and chisels as pictured. Included are: --- a long straight gouge marked #3, 1" wide, and with an added Ulmia handle --- a parting tool marked #39, width from tip to tip across the top is about 3/8". It shows almost no wear on the struck end. --- a fishtail gouge also marked #3 that has a small rust spot on the side of the shaft, about the only rust I saw in any of the tools I have listed. --- a bent gouge marked #12 that is 1/2" wide, the struck end of the handle is worn at an angle (???) All are marked ASHLEY ILES LTD MADE IN ENGLAND on the shafts, and 2 of the handles still have the original ASHLEY ILES decals on them. These, and all of the other carving tools that are currently listed by maker, are all in very good condition except as noted. These tools are generally very clean, with no rust or pitting, and show usage ranging from almost none to noticeable wear on the struck ends of the handles. Many have been amateurishly sharpened, and will need a proper sharpening. SHIPPING: 2 pounds when boxed, and too long to fit into a Priority Flat Rate envelope. (non-US bidders please see below). If you were to buy several lots of the carving tools I have listed, I could ship dozens of them all in one regular Priority Flat Rate box. The queue is overflowing with tools right now, as they seem to be finding me faster than I can list them. Please see my other current as well as upcoming auctions, as I am or will be listing many more collectible planes and tools. I typically list in batches of similar tools, and sitting right now in the queue are MANY metal planes and parts for them, many more American and British molders, chisels and gouges, bevels and squares, books about tools, and a variety of other tools. And if you, like me, are tired of the disappointments as a shopper -- misleading descriptions and poor photographs, "fine" tools that turned out to be repainted when you got them, non original parts that weren't mentioned, and poor packaging, -- then I encourage you to follow my auctions. I come from the handshake school of doing business, and hopefully you are like me and understand what that means. ETHICS IN DESCRIPTIONS: I also buy for my collecting on eBay, and I have been burned too many times by misleading (duh did I forget to mention .......) descriptions, and pictures only of the left side when the right side was trashed. Life is much simpler for me if I disclose what I know or see about an item before you bid, and especially before you receive it in the mail. If I have added or repalced a part, I will tell you. If I think the wedge on a molding plane is not original, I will tell you. If I think a japanned plane has been repainted, I will tell you. What goes around, comes around. RETURN POLICY: I believe that if you give honest descriptions, and include enough pictures, you shouldn't need a return policy. However, that doesn't mean that I won't make an occasional mistake. Please bid with the assurance that if I have made an error in my listing, I WILL take care of you. WASHINGTON STATE BIDDERS: I hate to do this, but if I ship to a Washington address, I either have to charge sales tax at the rate of 9.0%, or receive a valid resale form. PRIORITY MAIL FLAT RATE BOXES FOR HEAVY ITEMS: The Post Office has two sizes of the regular Priority Mail Flat Rate boxes (11-7/8 x 3-3/8 x 13-5/8 inches and 11 x 8-1/2 x 5-1/2 inches), plus a larger and more expensive Flat Rate Box, for which the postage stays the same regardless of weight. I try to use these if at all possible. WINNING MULTIPLE AUCTIONS: I will always combine multiple purchases to save on shipping, and use the Flat Rate boxes whenever they make sense. INTERNATIONAL PRIORITY MAIL: Canada: 1 pound is $18.15, goes up each pound to 5 pounds which is $23.47. Regular Flat Rate box is $24.75. Flat Rate envelope is $10.45. Australia: 1 pound is $23.38, goes up each pound to 5 pounds which is $40.48. Regular Flat Rate box is $39.00. Flat Rate envelope is $12.35. UK & western Europe: 1 pound is $24.80, goes up each pound to 5 pounds which is $34.30. Regular Flat Rate box is $39.00. Flat Rate envelope is $12.35. Each of the above, except the Flat Rate envelope, includes a bit of automatically included insurance, which is based on weight but is usually about $70 worth of coverage maximum. Additional insurance is a few dollars more and depends on value. There is NO provision for insurance with the Flat Rate envelope. INTERNATIONAL FIRST CLASS MAIL: only available for small packages up to 4 pounds, not available over 4 pounds. Canada: 1 pound $6.76, 2 pounds $10.56, 3 pounds $14.36, 4 pounds $18.16 Australia: 1 pound $12.30, 2 pounds $18.90, 3 pounds $25.50, 4 pounds $32.10 UK & western Europe: same as Australia There is NO insurance with First Class Mail. You are welcome to choose it, but the risk is yours, obviously. PACKAGING: Please check my feedback -- I package well. I figure if you take the time to purchase from me, then I can take the time to package it well, and not just throw it into a cereal box with a scrap of newspaper. I hope someday I will meet some of you as we trudge the happy road of tool collecting! If you have questions about anything I have listed, please ask. Good luck! Powered by eBay Turbo Lister
