And what in the world is GlassWEAR? + GLASS +Hand-Blown Sculptured ColoredPhilosophy & Method by John Burton Copyright 1967. First edition. Published by Chilton Book Company, Philadelphia, PA. 273 pages, hardbound with dustjacket. Nearly 300 black and white photos and line drawings, 14 color photos. 7 1/4 by 10 1/4 inches. This is a terrific introduction to the art of creative lampworking - glass blowing using a torch, glass tubing, and glass rods. Part 1 gives a brief history of glass and glassmaking, including commentary on Burton's visits to various modern glass centers, as well as some of his "philosophy" of glass. Part 2 gets down to business, including a list of needed tools and materials, setting up your work area, experiments to teach you the basics of glass handling, adding color to your glass creations, and illustrated instructions on making beads, goblets, bottles, jugs, sculptures, and other glass creations. Some of Burton's glass "art" may seem rather crude in light of the advances that have been made in the 35+ years since this book was published. However, this book still contains enough useful information that it should be part of any glass blower's library. Ex-library book with usual markings, cardpocket on back endpaper. Dustjacket is covered with plastic (glued in place), still has numerous scuffs, bumps, creases, and tears; chips out at top of spine. Corners bumped. Bottom edge of covers is worn through the cloth. Binding is solid, with no loose or missing pages. Pages have occasional light soil from handling and a few 'thumbing' creases at the edges. A good working copy of this excellent how-to book. Buyer pays $4.99 Media rate shipping and handling within the U.S. Add $1.75 for insurance, if desired. We are not responsible for uninsured packages lost or damaged by the Post Office. International/Priority shipment costs more. Ask before you bid.   Postal money order gets shipment on our next shipping day (We usually ship once a week, on Saturday).
